  2. This video was terribly boring. I don’t understand why such tired celebrity appearances were used save Daft Punk. It could have been epic but it falls flat and stinks of unoriginality. The speed that the action plays out is a nerve racking crawl. It could have been created in 30 seconds with much more success. I hope Adidas realizes that they threw far too much money at an ad company for this waste of time. It was technically difficult to do but that’s all so easy with the tech we have in 2010!

  3. I disagree. I loved this spot. It shows the other side of world cup spectatorship. It isn’t always inspiring and a lot of stuff is going on. The way that the makers of this spot blended the added persons with the original film is really good, in both idea and quality. I thought it was cool, and I have been wondering about Beckham myself. My only question is why was Daft Punk allowed in too, they are robots, haha.

  6. @catalectic – You clearly have no idea of how modern television advertising is done. This is a 2 minute spot that will get edited down to 30 seconds to be broadcast. There are several different combinations of sequences that can chosen from the 2 minutes, probably resulting in 3-4 different commercials to be aired. Also, you can’t say something is technically difficult but easy to do with technology unless you’re using your rectum to speak.

  7. It was pretty well done. But if your gonna have David Beckham standing in for Han Solo, you best have him shooting Greedo.

  8. And yet, the sentiment that Catalectic has still stands – another monumental waste of money, with very little originality (the scene is at best a “remix”) and to very little effect. While the slebs are not actors and so can be forgiven for their part in the drivel, the writers should be shot like Greedo. Certain moments barely make sense! Should have stuck to the first Originals house party ad – we all wanted to be a part of that. I’m off to watch Nike’s Write the Future ad now. Far better.

  9. Daft Punk seemed pretty seamless, but for a commercial whose finale boasts about originality, this one dies a horrible ironic death.

  11. This commerical is really weak… celebrities and brands associated with Adidas and Adidas one-shot endorsement projects (Star Wars x Adidas, Daft Punk) slapped together in one reality – amusing, but confusing at the same time since the different projects serve different demographics. Beckham obviously part of the soccer line, Star Wars part of the street culture line – and while you can be a fan of both lines, they could have been linked together much better than this short sketch which has a poor narrative payoff. I imagine the idea sounded really good in concept, they threw a lot of money at it, and at a certain point they decided to keep going with it despite possible internal objections.
